The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has again extended the restrictions or directions imposed on the 'The Suri Friends Union Co-operative Bank Limited' located in Suri, West Bengal. According to previous directives, the duration has been extended periodically since July 2022, with the last deadline ending on October 22, 2026. The central bank has now decided to keep these directions in force for an additional three months, until January 22, 2027, in the public interest.

These directions are issued under Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. The RBI has clarified that this extension should not be interpreted as a certificate or a sign of satisfactory financial condition of the bank. The process of reviewing the bank's financial health will continue, and further action will be taken accordingly.

It is noteworthy that the RBI has been very strict in supervising and regulating co-operative banks to ensure that the money of small investors is protected. Such steps are generally taken when discrepancies are found in the financial regulations or capital adequacy that the bank is required to fulfill. Customers are advised not to panic and to follow the instructions of the local branch or official directives from the RBI.

How the bank's operations will change in the future depends entirely on the results of the financial audit. For now, it is essential for customers to clearly understand from the bank authorities what the limitations are on regular banking activities. For any information, only the data on the official RBI website should be considered reliable.
