The Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA) under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) organized the 'Shrimp Retail 2026' conference in Vijayawada. The main objective of this conference is to increase the availability and consumption of seafood, especially specific species, in the country's domestic market. Despite being one of the largest seafood producing countries in the world, the consumption of seafood at the domestic level in India is still not sufficient.

According to researchers and entrepreneurs, it is essential to eliminate errors in the seafood supply chain and the lack of management in retail sales. A practical plan or roadmap has been prepared in this conference to maintain the quality of seafood and make it available to consumers at affordable prices.

Discussions were also held on how farmers involved in fish farming can manage their production in line with market demand. Improving the business ecosystem for seafood will not only provide nutrition but will also emerge as a profitable business for fish farmers.

Stakeholders from various parts of the country participated in this event and identified challenges in the marketing of seafood. Experts expressed the view that such efforts in the future would help expand India's fisheries industry from international standards to domestic market requirements.
